Dynamic Data Collector

With today’s increasing line speeds and complexity, line control becomes more and more important.

What is it?

Our Dynamic Data Collector can collect all data from the machines on the blow moulding line, and much more…
It is a line PC which collects all data from the line, as well as an HMI to allow interfacing with the operator.

We chose a PC application because this allows us to write connectors for any type of controller in the line.
After all, we mostly see a mix of control systems in factories. Therefore, our connector concept allows us to connect with any type of controller.

What can the Dynamic Data Collector do?

The Dynamic Data Collector collects the data from the different components. Then, it stores these data on a local database. This database is regularly centralised into our server application DDC200. There, the data are stored and condensed after a while.

To give you an idea of the possibilities, you can find some frequently used applications below:

  • It can start/stop the line or individual machines when needed:
When the blow moulding machines stop, the conveying often continues… As a result, this causes excessive wear & tear, unnecessary safety risks, etc. However, line control can prevent such issues by starting and stopping either the whole line or individual machines (e.g. conveyor) as necessary.
  •

  • Measuring equipment parameters like energy consumption:
Grinders are a typical example of equipment with a high energy consumption. Especially on bigger drum lines, grinders easily consume 18-30 kW.
Therefore, we at Delta Engineering link grinders with our ESG platform: Energy Saving system for Grinders. This platform controls the grinder engine, fans and conveyors. Thanks to the CVR technology (Constant Voltage Regulation) in the drive, we can typically save approximately 20 % of the energy consumption on grinders!
  •
Moreover, there is a direct correlation between knife-wear and power consumption. Namely, when the knives are worn, the equipment needs more energy to compensate. In fact, the power consumption of a grinder is a marker for several process issues:

    • Worn knives
    • Tails too long (Extrusion Blow Moulding)
    • Temperature tail flash

The above information can be very useful if you link this to your ERP data, as it is material-dependent. In most countries, you can even have tax advantages if you invest in energy-saving applications like our ESG.

  • Measuring total line energy consumption:

The Dynamic Data Collector can measure all line energy consumption, so it can be analysed for costing (e.g. material dependency, line efficiency…)

  •

  • Measuring production machine information:
Cycle time measurement, identifying which tool is on the machine using RFID tags, etc.
  •

  • Connecting to dosing equipment:
Collecting info from gravimetric & volumetric (less accurate) dosing equipment.
This gives you instant info about one of your most expensive components in plastic processing: raw materials.
  •

  • Connecting to leak testing equipment:
All of our new leak testing equipment has connectors to this platform. We can even connect our older equipment, as we have been integrating it in our equipment for the last decade.
Leak testing data analysis is extremely interesting, as it will give you a lot of info about your process!
To illustrate, with our leak testing equipment, we can monitor the stability of your process: Residual pressure drop variation is the key factor. Learn more about this topic on our eLearning platform.
  •

  • Connecting to packaging equipment:
Most Delta engineering packaging equipment has the interface as well.
Moreover, for older or non-Delta Engineering equipment, we have a small interface providing the necessary signals.
  •

  • Central line data collection:
  • Calculate your on-line efficiency and key line KPIs like kWh/kg processed material, etc.
You can connect this to our server application, which will collect the data from the local units. Then, it will make the data available in SQL, MYSQL, etc. for reporting. If you wish, you can link our system to your MES/WMS/ERP system. We have software specialists to assist you with this.

Line control: IMPROVE YOUR EFFICIENCY!

In conclusion, our Dynamic Data Collector is the perfect tool to monitor your efficiency and increase performance. Actually, it is not just a tool that you buy, but it is a process of awareness in the factory, empowering people, changing the mindset.
