Blow-trim

1. SITUATION

Wide-neck PET bottles challenge production efficiency
Wide-neck PET containers are becoming increasingly popular in food, dairy, household, and personal care applications. While they offer clear benefits for filling, dispensing, and consumer convenience, they also introduce challenges during production.
For high-volume manufacturing, two-stage PET stretch blow molding remains the preferred production technology. In this context, standard narrow-neck preforms can be processed at very high speeds, delivering maximum output and efficiency. Wide-neck preforms are a different story. They are more difficult to handle in two-stage blow molding systems, which can limit production speed and increase operational complexity.
In addition, manufacturers producing smaller volumes or multiple SKUs face another challenge. Every new wide-neck bottle typically requires dedicated injection molds and preform tooling, resulting in higher investments, longer development cycles, and less flexibility.
These issues pose a clear challenge: how can manufacturers produce wide-neck PET bottles without compromising productivity, flexibility, or investment efficiency?

2. SOLUTION

Delta Engineering’s high-speed PET trimming
To address this challenge, we developed a high-speed PET spin trimmer that enables wide-neck bottles to be produced from standard narrow-neck preforms.
The concept is simple. During blow molding, a specially designed lost dome is integrated into the bottle finish. After blowing, this dome is removed using our high-speed spin trimming technology, creating a precise and consistent wide-neck opening.
Throughout the trimming process, a patented head-clamping system keeps the bottle perfectly positioned. This ensures reliable operation at production speed while maintaining consistent neck quality.
The result is a highly efficient production method that combines the productivity of two-stage PET processing with the flexibility to produce a wide range of wide-neck bottle designs.

3. BENEFITS

High-speed production of wide-neck PET bottles
Two-stage PET blow molding offers the highest productivity and smallest footprint for large-volume production. Our PET blow-trim technology enables manufacturers to retain these advantages while producing wide-neck containers that would otherwise be difficult to run efficiently on two-stage equipment.
Lower tooling costs
Producing a new wide-neck bottle typically requires dedicated preform tooling and injection molds. With our innovative PET spin trimmer, manufacturers can use existing standard narrow-neck preforms. In this way, they only need to develop the blow mold itself. This significantly reduces tooling investments and lowers the cost of introducing new packaging formats.
Faster time-to-market
Because new injection molds are no longer required, development cycles become considerably shorter. Manufacturers can move from concept to production faster, making blow-trim an attractive solution for new product launches, pilot projects, and rapidly evolving packaging portfolios.
More flexibility for multiple SKUs
Our PET spin trimmer enables manufacturers to produce multiple bottle variants using existing preforms. This makes smaller production runs economically viable while reducing the complexity and cost associated with dedicated tooling for every bottle design.
Consistent neck quality at production speed
The combination of the lost dome design and our patented head-clamping system delivers precise and repeatable trimming results. Manufacturers benefit from a reliable neck finish while maintaining the production speeds required in modern PET manufacturing environments.
Ready to rethink wide-neck PET production?
Our high-speed PET spin trimming technology combines the efficiency of two-stage PET processing with the flexibility of wide-neck bottle production. The result: lower tooling costs, faster product development, and reliable high-speed manufacturing.
